I've been trying to arrange a custom latex photoshoot in Rotterdam for the past few months. I found a large studio with an elevator (convenient since I'm in a wheelchair), but finding a good photographer in the area and an equally good model (I realize I am very picky) proved difficult. The latter would not only have to be able to wear latex for extended periods under the hot studio lights, but also be able to act a bit or properly follow directions from me or the photographer. I'm not looking for the model looking pretty while smiling at the camera with her hands on her hips, charming the viewer, but rather for performance-related shots, like action—doing something—without (visibly) being aware of the camera. These shots/photo's can range from a side view of the model examining a (fictional) datapad, leaning on a (fictional) desk, looking up/down/left/right over her shoulder, with a worried or inquisitive look (I think I heard something crawling behind me), to walking/running past/toward/away from the camera (hurried or confident or vigilant), crouching, ducking, pretending to explore a vent or sitting in the captain's chair of a fictional spaceship, pulling levers and pressing buttons, all of which I then add and create later. And all of this while being dressed in a skin-tight black rubber catsuit, gloves, and balancing on classic high heels. So far, I had no such luck finding either one of them. The reason for this quest is that my method of adding latex to a model is rather laborious. My favorite, latex gloves, in particular, proves to be a huge challenge every time. Hands suck. No really, I love long shiny, covered fingers, but getting there is a monumental task. It all adds up (not just the gloves), and takes a ton of time, preventing me from moving on to the next piece because I can't do that until what I'm working on is finished. Perhaps the passing of my parents last year made me more aware of our limited time here. I realize I'm not getting any younger, and I want to speed things up if possible. Because I still got such sights to show you. I've been collecting, buying reference photo's of models in various dynamic poses for the past years from Artstation, with the intent to use those for my work. But again, my way of adding shiny rubber to them is, I feel, taking too much time. Even then, I also still need to build a convincing 3D environment around them too. < Here are a few model kits I've purchased so far. Many contain between the 1,000 to 2.000 high-resolution (around 5K) photos. They're almost all fantastic. There's a huge variety of poses and facial expressions. Professionally lit, and many of them are truly usable (if time permits). I already did use a few of them in my artworks and planning to use more. They're just almost all missing one important thing: a shiny second skin. So I thought about it over and over again. I started to write it, threw it away, rewrote the application the next day, and threw it away again. But yesterday (last Thursday) I was done with it. I got my flu shot at my doctor's office, which has nothing to do with this, but I got home, looked up information on one of these photo equipment providers, and sent an email asking if they were open to a commissioned photoshoot with a model in a latex catsuit, gloves, and classic high heels. To be honest I expected nothing but a polite but firm ' sorry no, we don't do that kind of shoots'. To my surprise the reply was that they can "absolutely arrange a custom photoshoot according to your request". It absolutley does not come cheap but I think it's good long term investment. My hopes and thoughts are that there's enough material in this I can adapt and use for years to come. There remained one question, would I go for: Exclusive rights: where the resulting photo reference pack is provided solely to me and not published or sold elsewhere . or Non-exclusive: where they retain the right to publish and sell this photoshoot on their marketplaces. It's a lot more expensive, but I went for the exclusive rights. That way I can have something exclusive for the collectors here, that isn't available anywhere else. More when I have more.
